The brain and spinal cord are the two most important parts of the nervous system. It acts as a relay. It delivers information to different parts of the body. The actions performed by the body are due to the information provided by the nervous system. The system is divided into two subclasses – the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. Together, they ensure that our body is working well. Some diseases prevent this system from working normally. The branch of medicine that deals with conditions and diseases of the nervous system is known as neurology. When treatment requires surgical intervention, then neurosurgery comes into play.

The conditions that are treated by a neurosurgeon are as follows –

Brain tumor

It is a condition in which abnormal cells come from inside the brain. They can travel to the brain starting either in the brain or in other places. Malignant tumors are cancerous while benign without benign. The rate at which it grows depends on the extent of the tumor. This growth determines the function of the tumor.

Some types of tumors are glioma, meningioma, brain metastasis, etc. This happens when there is an error of DNA mutation. It is identified with the help of symptoms like headache, ause, dizziness, vision problems, seizures etc.

Ile epilepsy

It is a group of neurological disorders that have abnormal activity of the brain, leading to seizures. There is a random period of abnormal behavior that causes loss of sensation and awareness. The symptoms seen by patients can be of varying severity. Some people bend their arms while others stare blankly.

You should consult a doctor when they stay for more than five minutes and when it stops, there is no return of consciousness. It is linked to various factors such as genes, head injury, brain conditions etc.

Itu pituitary tumor

Tumors starting in the pituitary gland are known as pituitary tumors. Most of them are cancer free and do not spread to other parts of the body. They cause the glands to produce low levels of hormones. There may not be symptoms in each and every case. Some of the symptoms associated with these tumors include headaches, loss of vision, and a feeling of cold.

Here are some common treatment options:

Rain brain tumor surgery

It is an operation to remove a tumor from the brain. Surgery depends on the type and grade of tumor. It is the first treatment recommended by a doctor. There are various surgical options. In cortical mapping, the areas of the brain that control the senses and language can be identified. If the skull needs to be opened, a cranotomy is one way. You are first given anesthesia and then an incision is made in the scalp to remove as many tumors as possible.

Ile epilepsy surgery

It is a surgical procedure that is given to control an attack. The main purpose of this surgery is to remove the special part of the brain that causes the attack. In vagus nerve stimulation, a device is placed under the skin that reduces the onset of seizures by giving an electrical tweak. Temporal lobe epilepsy is treated by cutting the area of brain tissue that is affected. This method eliminates the focus of seizures.

Deep brain stimulation

It is a surgical procedure performed mostly for Parkinson’s disease, OCD and dystonia. Electrodes are implanted in certain areas of the brain. They generate electrical impulses that regulate abnormal impulses. The given impulse is controlled by devices that look like pacemakers. There may be some side effects after surgery such as seizures, infections, headaches, stools, temporary pain at the implant site, etc.
