Brain tumor surgery is performed to remove the tumor from the brain. In other words, this operation is done to reduce the pressure inside the brain. If you are diagnosed with a brain tumor, the first treatment available to you is brain tumor surgery. It is done to remove the tumor, complete or as much as possible. Usually, surgery is taken to treat the early stages and other malignant tumors. It is a widely approached treatment by all, where the tumor can be easily removed without any risk of neurological damage.

Types of brain tumor surgery

The following are the most common types of brain tumor surgery performed today.

1. Biopsy: A surgery performed to remove a tumor tissue sample.

2. Cranotomy: An operation was performed to remove part of the skull. In doing so, it allows the neurosurgeon to detect and delete as many tumors as possible. The removed part is replaced after surgery.

3. Craniotomy: It is similar to craniotomy. The only difference in this operation is that part of the skull has not been removed.

De. Debugging: Surgery is performed to reduce the size of the tumor.

Par. Partial prevention: An operation was performed to remove only one part of the tumor (due to the risk of neurological disorder).

6. Complete removal: Surgery is performed to remove the complete tumor.

Sh. Shunt: Insertion of designed drainage systems allows more fluid to move from the brain to other parts of the body.

8. Ommaya Reservoir: A small container is inserted under the scalp and attached to a tube. This container is used for:

a) Treat the brain and surrounding cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) with chemotherapy.

B) Remove the CSF to detect the presence of healthy cells.

C) Remove cystic fluid without requesting surgery.

9. Surgery on the skull: It is a special technique used to remove tumors in the area of a tumor as well.

10. Transfenoidal Surgery: A surgery was performed to work on the pituitary adenomas and craniopharyngiomas.

11. Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy: It is a minimally invasive method of removing tissue with heat. It is the most useful and efficient and safe technology to date. It is considered a minimally invasive alternative to primary and metastatic tumors that are new or recurrent anywhere in the brain.

Recovery time for brain tumor surgery

Recovery recovery time depends on:

  1. Complete operation done.
  2. The part of the brain where the tumor is located.
  3. Areas of the brain are affected by surgery.
  4. Patient age and overall health.
